The city of Enumclaw’s Gallery 2010 presents Enumclaw painter John D. Rogers’ Mountains of Color. The exhibit opens April 7 and runs through May 4 at Enumclaw City Hall. An artist reception will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. April 16 at City Hall.
City of Enumclaw cultural programs manager Gary LaTurner said Rogers creates imaginative and expressive mountain images using a rainbow of colors in his generous palette.
“John’s unique style gives the viewer an opportunity to see local and regional landscapes through his lens, a new view, and a different view,” LaTurner said. “John Rogers relies on his own mind and strength of personal conviction to create his original artwork.”
“My approach to and philosophy of painting centers on an expressive, innovative, and explorative interpretation of the natural landscape,” Rogers wrote in a press release. “Unexpected color with exaggerated tones, organic planes of vibrant brushstrokes and intriguing forms create a unique and colorful presentation of the western landscape.
“Though I present recognizable images in the paintings, the combination of colors and brushstrokes challenge the viewer’s eye, emotion and preconceived ideas of the image(s) presented. Thus, nature and the viewer are transposed in the process.
“In the end, my paintings, though visually stimulating, must be enjoyable and communicative of good thoughts. Hopefully, you have found them so and maybe, just maybe, you experienced a ‘what if’ moment.”
