Dan Roach, Rick Talbert and Stan Flemming will take the oath of office and join the Pierce County Council on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

The swearing-in ceremony, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the County Council chambers, 930 Tacoma Ave. S, Room 1045. The seven-member Council’s first meeting of the year will begin at 3 p.m., and a key order of business is to elect leadership and approve committee assignments.

Rick Talbert (District 5): Talbert previously worked for Pierce County as a performance auditor and served eight years on the Tacoma City Council. A graduate of Tacoma’s Lincoln High School and Western Washington University, he succeeds Barbara Gelman in representing District 5, which covers portions of South Tacoma out to Frederickson.

Stan Flemming (District 7): Flemming served in the state House of Representatives and was the first mayor of the City of University Place. He is a family physician and retired Brigadier General in the U.S. Army who served two combat tours of duty. He succeeds Terry Lee in representing District 7, which covers the areas west of the Tacoma Narrows as well as West Tacoma, University Place and Fircrest.

The other members of the Council are Joyce McDonald (District 2), Roger Bush (District 3), Tim Farrell (District 4) and Dick Muri (District 6).
