Superintendent to talk about schools

School levies on Feb. 9 ballot

Enumclaw and White River school districts have four-year maintenance and operation levies on the Feb. 9 ballot in King and Pierce counties. These levies provide each district with 18 to 22 percent of its annual budget. If approved, they will replace levies which expire in 2010.

Enumclaw will be asking voters to approve collections of $9.2 million in 2011, with a final collection of $10.3 million in 2014 at a rate of $3.05 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

The White River School District will ask voters to approve $8.2 million for collection in 2011, with an increase of $200,000 each year, based on a 2 percent increase in assessed valuation, through 2014. The rate would be approximately $3.12 per $1,000 dollars of assessed value.

Each levy requires a simple majority for passage.

Enumclaw’s levy is mail-in only. Ballots must be postmarked by Feb. 9.
