At a little after 11 a.m. Feb. 12 a driver pulled into a parking stall at the Buckley Post Office and, prior to turning off the ignition of her 1992 Lexus, stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake.

The vehicle bucked over the cement parking slab, flew over the width of the 8-foot sidewalk and blasted into the brick wall of the building itself, creating some unwanted ventilation for post office patrons.

“I wasn't there, but the employee that she reported the incident to said she felt really bad,” Buckley Postmaster Terry Wickham said. “At least no one was hurt.”

Wickham said it was not the first time a driver has crashed into the facility.

“The last time it happened I was out of the office as well. I suppose I should just stay here all the time to prevent it from happening,” Wickham joked.

“When the last one unfolded, we were really lucky because people could have been hurt,” Wickham said. “When the car came through the wall, it knocked over two 8-foot tall cabinets that would have crushed anyone that was close to them at the time.”
