The Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS) announced that paintings of 62 artists have been selected for the 74th Annual International Open Exhibition that will be on display from April 19 – June 6, 2014 at the American Art Company, 1126 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma WA 98402.
Six countries and 36 states represent the 315 entrants with 487 entries. Co-chair Jolene Sanborn thought that the submissions were “off the charts amazing” and couldn’t imagine how the juror was going to narrow the field.
Juror Donna Zagotta, too thought it was a hard show to choose as there were many wonderful paintings. “I could have easily chosen 50 more paintings! The show is simply fabulous!”
Zagotta is an internationally recognized artist, teacher, juror and writer who has been active professionally for over 25 years. Her paintings have evolved from traditional watercolor techniques to an unconventional use of the watercolor medium and the exploration of the area that lies between realism and abstraction. A five-day NWWS Donna Zagotta Workshop runs form April 21-25, 2014. Cost for NWWS members is $400, non-members $500. Sign up online . Space is limited.
The public and media are invited to the artists’ reception and awards ceremony Saturday April 26th, 2-4pm at the American Art Company. “We usually have the reception on a Thursday,” stated Sanborn, “but since American Art Company is graciously hosting this year, we thought it would be easier for more people to attend on a Saturday and avoid late afternoon traffic.” The gallery is right down town Tacoma, easy access from I-5 and close to the Glass Museum with lots of free parking on weekends.
