Susan Kubanda, 56, died Aug. 7, 2009, from breast cancer that spread to her brain.

She was born in Mt. Holly, N.J., June 3, 1953, but made the Buckley/Enumclaw area her home for the past 25 years.

She lived her life to the fullest, raising and homeschooling her two boys and girl, teaching Spanish to school children and English to immigrants. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, going on long walks with her husband and singing and playing guitar.

She is survived by her husband Michael Kubanda and children Garbriel Kubanda, Justine and Matthew Garver and Carman Kubanda.

SHIRLEY HEEN

Shirley Ann Heen, a familiar face in the Enumclaw community for more than two decades, died Aug. 8, 2009, in Buckley.

She was born June 24, 1931, in Yakima, Wash. She was a member of the Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce and Enumclaw Rotary, and served on the Enumclaw City Council and the Fair Board. She was the King County Fair manager for 25 years.

She is survived by her daughter Cindy Kittleson of Buckley; sons Darrel Heen and Keith Heen, both of Bonney Lake; sisters Lenore and Donna; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Kevin, husband Alvin and brother Jim Hartwell.

A service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Enumclaw Expo Center fieldhouse (Pete’s Pool).

SAM RITTER

Enumclaw resident Sam Ritter died Aug. 3, 2009, from natural causes. He was 54.

He was born May 5, 1955, in Enum-claw, the third of nine children born to Harvey and Ida Ritter and the first born in Enumclaw. He graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1973 and it was about that time that he and some friends began the annual “Ocean Party,” an event he never missed. He loved farming, hunting pheasants and wrestling with the kids in the family.

He is survived by sisters Jerry Godley and husband George, Cindy Harvey and husband Mike, Chris Ritter, Penny Ritter and Mary Weigel; and brothers Charles Ritter and wife Sami and Jim Ritter and wife Kellie.

His mother died just a week earlier and he was also preceded in death by his father, Harvey Ritter; brother Jay Ritter; and nephew Swen Ritter.

Visitation is planned for 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 14 and 15, at Weeks’ Enumclaw Funeral Home. A celebration of life will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at V-2 Farm, 20613 436th St. S.E., Enumclaw; children were always attracted to him, so entire families are invited.

Memorials are suggested to Enumclaw Fire and Aid Unit, 1330 Wells St., Enumclaw, 98022.

LARRY BORGEN

Larry Sam Borgen died Aug. 1, 2009, at his home in Haugan, Mont.

He was born July 23, 1942, to Samuel and Marion Borgen in Enumclaw. He married Maria Henry July 6, 1962, and worked for Weyerhaeuser. He loved the outdoors.

He is survived by wife Maria of the home; sons Alan and wife Kim and Scott and wife Brandie, all of Enumclaw; brother Mike Borgen and wife Barbara of Enumclaw; sister Nan Magnuson of Des Moines, Wash.; and two granddaughters.

An open house took place in Haugan, Mont., Aug. 7.

SHARON AVERILL

Sharon E. Averill, 70, died Aug. 7, 2009.

She was born Sept. 19, 1938, in St. Maries, Idaho. She lived in Black Diamond for 43 years and was a member of Black Diamond Eagles.

She is survived by children Sheryl Palley and husband Dean of Bonney Lake, Norman A. Averill and wife Mary of Kent, Wash., Earl Averill of Black Diamond, Gerry Averill and wife Tammy of Auburn, Terry Helm and husband Mitch of Wendall, Idaho and Byron Averill of Black Diamond; a sister; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren..

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman in 2003, three brothers, a sister and a great-granddaughter.

At her request, there were no services.
