Former area resident Hans “Dirk” Dirksen died Nov. 20, 2008, in Leavenworth, Wash., at the age of 62.

He was born Aug. 31, 1946, in Hard-erwijk, Holland, and at the age of 2 moved with his family to a Dutch community in Iowa. The family later moved to Artesia, Calif., where he met Carol Cutright; they were married Oct. 9, 1964. They moved to Washington where he continued his work as a floor installer. In the mid-1980s, he opened Dirk’s Flooring, which he sold in 1995. He became involved in real estate, working for the John L. Scott office in Bonney Lake for three years before moving to Quincy, Wash.

He and his wife were members of the Christian Reformed Church, Wabash Presbyterian Church and, most recently, the First Presbyterian Church in Wenatchee, Wash. He knew the importance of maintaining friendships and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren outdoor things.

He is survived by his wife Carol; daughters Denise Hughes and husband Dick of Kent, Wash., Danielle Weeks and husband Dan of Issaquah, Wash., and Denae Dorrett and husband Mike of Quincy; son Hans Dirksen and wife Kristen of Elizabeth City, N.C.; brother Dick Dirksen and wife Leona of Redlands, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Visitation was Friday, Nov. 28, at Weeks’ Funeral Home in Buckley and the funeral service took place Saturday, Nov. 29, at Wabash Presbyterian Church. An open house in honor of his life is planned for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the family home in Quincy.
