Enumclaw’s McFarland Park will soon be receiving an upgrade in the form of a pickleball court.
The Enumclaw City Council approved a bid of nearly $108,000 with Sita Enterprises to construct the court during its March 27 meeting.
It’s been nearly six years since the idea of adding a pickleball court to the park was first broached by the city. However, costs were higher than expected back then — and even in the summer of 2022, the council wasn’t prepared for the six-digit estimated cost, and once again pushed working on a new court into the future.
According to city Parks and Rec Director Alina Hibbs, the court will be constructed of cement concrete, unlike the Dwight Garret Park courts, which are coated asphalt.
Two courts will be constructed over the current basketball court, and the city expects to keep the nets for the court up all year long.
“Everything that’s excess on the outside will be removed and landscaped with grass,” Hibbs said.
There’s currently no official timeline for when construction will start and end, but Hibbs added that the city hopes to start this summer.
