Candidate filing begins Monday, May 12 with the Pierce County Auditor’s Office and the Office of the Secretary of State. Offices open for election this year include:

• U.S. Representatives (Congress)

• State Senators and Representatives

• Pierce County Auditor, Prosecuting Attorney, County Council Districts 1, 5 and 7

• State Supreme Court

• State Court of Appeals, Division 2, District 1

• Superior Court Department No. 19

• Pierce County District Court

• Tacoma Municipal Court

• Precinct Committee Officers, One Democrat and One Republican office per precinct

Depending on the office, candidates will file either with the Pierce County Auditor’s Office or the Secretary of State. A complete list of open offices and where to file is available at the Pierce County elections website.

Online candidate filing begins Monday, May 12 at 9 a.m. To file for office go to the website and choose the “Candidates” link. The site also includes a list of open offices, filing fees, additional candidate information and a list of candidate filings.

After filing for office, candidates will receive an email with a link to submit their voters’ pamphlet information online. Candidates will also receive email notification when other candidates file against them.

“Online candidate filing is fast, easy and convenient. Candidates are encouraged to file early in the week,” said Cindy Hartman, Pierce County Deputy Auditor.

Filing week runs through Friday, May 16. Online filing ends at 4 p.m. In-person filing ends at 4:30 p.m. at the Pierce County Election Center, located at 2501 South 35th St., Suite C, in Tacoma. A lot drawing to determine the order of candidates’ names on the ballot will be held Friday, May 16 after the close of candidate filing.
