At its March meeting Pierce County Library System’s Board of Trustees will discuss Pierce County Library being a National Medal for Museum and Library Service finalist, borrowing agreements with other libraries, customer satisfaction surveys, and other issues. The Board of Trustees will meet at the Library’s Processing and Administrative Center, 3005 112th St. E., in Tacoma, on Wednesday, March 13, from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
National Medal for Museum and Library Service finalist: the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMSL) selected Pierce County Library as one of 33 finalists for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service!
The prestigious national medal is the nation’s highest honor recognizing museums and libraries for service to the community and it celebrates institutions that make a difference for individuals, families and communities. IMLS selected Pierce County Library for its extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service and community support and involvement. Now through late April, IMLS is encouraging community members to share their story on IMLS’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/USIMLS. IMLS would like people to share how Pierce County Library has made a difference in their lives or simply what they like about Pierce County Library.
Borrowing agreements with other libraries: Executive Director Neel Parikh will present a draft reciprocal borrowing agreement policy for the Board of Trustees’ review and approval. The policy outlines the Library System’s philosophy and purpose for borrowing agreements with other libraries that allow residents in Pierce County Library’s service area to check out books and other materials from libraries outside of Pierce County Library’s service area and vice versa. In the past 40 years Pierce County Library has established borrowing agreements with 11 other library systems. The draft policy states that borrowing agreements are good public policy with governments cooperating and collaborating for the benefit of the public good.
Customer satisfaction surveys: On April 2nd Pierce County Library will launch online surveys to collect customers’ satisfaction with library services. The Library wants to know the public’s ideas and opinions about their library experience. The responses will help managers regularly monitor and assess customer satisfaction. The survey asks about the services people use; their satisfaction of staff service; their impression of the chairs, tables and overall buildings; and other important information. Managers will review all survey responses to help inform decisions about priority services and improve overall service. The surveys will be on the Library’s website at www.piercecountylibrary.org.
