The Pierce County Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission has opened the application process for the 2016 Preservation Grant Program.
Grant requests can be made for historic preservation or history-related project proposals. For stabilization, restoration, or rehabilitation of Certified Local Government (CLG) register-listed buildings or structures, the maximum request is $15,000. For photographic/document preservation, historic markers, history research, and public events/programming, the maximum request is $7,500. Matching resources must be provided by the applicants.
The Landmarks Commission will accept applications until 3 p.m. on July 1, 2015. The project activity timeline will be Jan. 1, 2016 through Nov. 13, 2016.
Nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and owners of property listed on local historic registers are eligible to apply. The grant guidelines and application form are available on the Planning and Land Services websitewww.co.pierce.wa.us/historicpreservation.
The program is funded by historic document money, derived from the $1 recording fee on public documents, as appropriated by the Pierce County Council.
