Organizers of Enumclaw's annual Stars and Stripes Fourth of July celebration are hoping both locals and out-of-towners will again make their way to town for a day of fun, food and fireworks.

Tuesday's festivities kick off with opening ceremonies at 1 p.m. at the corner of Cole Street and Initial Avenue. Included will be a formal welcome by Mayor John Wise, patriotic music and a cake honoring the nation's 230th birthday.

Entertainment, crafts and activities for kids will be available most of the day. For the younger set, there will be inflatable toys, carnival games, arts and crafts and a chance to decorate bicycles and tricycles. At 3 p.m., kids can participate in a candy scramble; parents need not worry about little ones getting trampled, as children will be divided into various age categories.

Kids who decorate their two-, three- or four-wheeled machines are invited to join the evening parade.

Music during the afternoon begins at 1:30 and will be provided by Gypsy Star and the Ohop Valley Boys.

This year, Auburn Sheet Metal will sponsor the Stars and Stripes parade, which gets rolling at 6 p.m. and travels a southerly course down Cole Street.

The evening concludes with a fireworks show at dusk at the King County Fairgrounds. Visitors are invited to park their cars and set up their lawn chairs in the north parking lot and take in the spectacle.
