AUTO ACCIDENT
• Police were called to the scene of a one-car injury accident at milepost 26 on state Route 410 at 7:12 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses reported a vehicle passing them on a corner while traveling at a high rate of speed prior to leaving the roadway. The driver was ejected. The scene was turned over to State Patrol troopers.
SUSPICIOUS
• Police were told the morning of Sept. 23 of a man who had made contact the day before with a 4-year-old girl who was at a city park with her preschool class. The man reportedly led the girl away by the hand until stopped by teachers; he then followed the class back to their school, where he hugged the girl goodbye. Extra patrol was requested.
THEFT
• An officer responded the afternoon of Sept. 22 to a Jensen Street address following a complaint that $50 in cash had been taken from an unsecured room. The exact time of the theft could not be determined.
LITTERING
• A Farman Street resident notified police Sept. 22 of an ongoing problem with people dumping garbage on a nearby property. The resident delivered several items to police that included peoples’ names. The complainant eventually decided against pressing charges, but wanted people to clean up their mess.
DRUG TROUBLE
• Police were told Sept. 22 of people on the grounds of Kibler Elementary School. An officer responded and found a male and female, with marijuana and scales nearby. The underage female was turned over to her mother, who also delivered the male subject to his residence.
MINOR IN POSSESSON
• A Sept. 21 traffic stop at 12:44 a.m. resulted in the driver being taken into custody for being a minor in possession of alcohol and driving without a valid license. The vehicle was secured and left at the scene, to be picked up later by a licensed driver.
DRIVING COMPLAINT
• The evening of Sept. 21, a Florence Street resident told police of someone driving a “pocket rocket” recklessly on the street and sidewalks. An officer found the suspect, discussed his driving habits and warned that further complaints could result in the mini-motorcycle being impounded.
MISCHIEF
• Police were told at 2:40 a.m. Sept. 20 of juveniles throwing corn at passing vehicles on state Route 164, in the area of 212th Avenue Southeast. Two vehicles were reportedly hit. The matter was turned over to the Washington State Patrol.
AGENCY ASSIST
• Police heard of a car hitting a guardrail at 4:30 a.m. Sept. 20. The accident occurred on state Route 164 at 196th Avenue Southeast. A male driver was not hurt but reportedly appeared intoxicated. There was significant damage done to the guardrail and a lot of debris left in the road. Enumclaw police secured the scene, then turned things over to county sheriffs, who were awaiting State Patrol troopers.
THEFT
• A citizen became suspicious at approximately noon Sept. 20 after watching a vehicle drive past a Stevenson Avenue business twice; the driver got out and quickly loaded wheels into the bed of his older-model pickup. The pickup was stopped near Southeast 400th Street and the owner of the Stevenson Avenue business traveled to the scene and determined the items in the vehicle were his. Police also found property possibly taken from another business.
THREATS MADE
• A Chinook Avenue resident notified police Sept. 20 of threats being received over her cell phone. Police contacted the caller and advised that criminal charges could be filed if the threats continued. The caller agreed to stop calling.
ASSAULT REPORTED
• Police were told at 1:18 a.m. Sept. 19 of an assault that occurred about an hour earlier. No weapons were involved and the victim declined medical attention. The assault was by a known suspect.
DISTURBANCE
• Police were notified at 1:39 a.m. Sept. 19 when an intoxicated, out-of-control female shattered a window of a downtown business. Owners declined to press charges and stated the situation would be handled as a civil issue.
VEHICLE THEFT
• Police were told at 8:45 p.m. Sept. 19 of a vehicle that had been stolen from the vicinity of Cole Street and Initial Avenue. The vehicle was found nearby.
TIRES SLASHED
• At 10:44 p.m. Sept. 19 police learned of tires being slashed on a vehicle parked in the vicinity of Myrtle Avenue and Railroad Street. There were no suspects.
STOLEN GUN
• An officer was contacted Sept. 18 after a patron of a Wells Street business offered to trade a gun for work on his car. A check of the weapon’s serial number determined that the gun had been reported stolen. Police were to be notified if the customer returned.
Buckley
BOOKED INTO JAIL
• On Sunday evening a driver was pulled over for speeding along state Route 410 and it was discovered he was driving while his license was suspended and was driving without his ignition interlock device in place as required by the Department of Licensing. The subject was transported to the Buckley jail, where a small baggie of a crystal substance was found in his wallet. The subject was then booked into the Pierce County jail.
HIT-AND-RUN
• Early Saturday evening a domestic argument over stray cats at a Railroad Avenue residence quickly escalated. After the husband struck his wife in the face, a 29-year-old female and longtime family friend tried to intervene, but as the husband was leaving the scene in his truck, he ran over the friend while backing out of the driveway. The Buckley police later located the suspect, who was arrested for fourth-degree assault and hit and run. The friend was transported to a hospital for treatment.
DRUGS AND WEAPON
• Early Friday morning, a vehicle was pulled over for a standard moving violation at the corner of state Route 410 and Park Avenue. It was determined by the arresting officer that the driver was under the influence of intoxicating liquor and in possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a dangerous weapon. The man was booked into the Buckley jail on a 72-hour investigative hold.
