UNDER THE INFLUENCE
• At 10:50 p.m. Jan. 15, police noticed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Puyallup Avenue without headlights. The officer was working with the Tacoma/Pierce County Task Force in Tacoma. When officers stopped the vehicle, they contacted the 50-year-old driver, who smelled of intoxicants and fumbled for his license. The driver’s eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred. The man refused to provide a proper breath sample at the scene. Marijuana and a marijuana pipe were located in the vehicle. The man was transported to the Fife City Jail for DUI processing and was booked for DUI and on a marijuana charge.
LICENSE SUSPENDED
• At 10:51 p.m. Jan. 14, police stopped a car in the 10100 block of 214th Avenue East with defective tail lights. The 21-year-old female driver did not have a license or proof of insurance. A record showed a warrant for misdemeanor arrest from Auburn and her license was suspended. She was placed under arrest and issued a criminal citation for driving with a suspended license and a notice of infraction for the lights.
FRAUD
• At 9:54 a.m. Jan. 19, a fraud report was recorded. A man stated his bank card was fraudulently used to withdraw $880 from his checking account. The man stated his account was accessed on Jan. 14 and he discovered the theft on Jan. 17 when his wife attempted to withdraw funds and was told the account was empty. He wasn’t sure how the funds were withdrawn, since the card is in his possession.
ROAD RAGE
• On Jan. 20 police responded at 8:59 p.m. to a report of a road rage incident resulting in damage to a vehicle. The reporting party, a 22-year-old male, was at his residence and told police another motorist had driven onto the shoulder of the road and spun the tires so gravel woulod be kicked up onto the victim’s vehicle. The suspect, a 40-year-old male, was contaced and cited for malicious mischief and reckless driving.
SUMNER
SHOPLIFTER
• At approximately 12:11 p.m. Jan. 10, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Valley Avenue for a report of an altercation between employees and a shoplifter. When officers arrived they recognized the male as the same subject that had shoplifted earlier in the week and had lost his pants while running from a loss prevention specialist. The suspect refused to provide his name and he was booked into jail as a “John Doe.” After four days the subject still refused to provide his identity. “John Doe’s mother came into the department and filed a missing person report. The investigating officer recognized the description as the male sitting in jail. The mother identified her son, solving the mystery.
SLEEPING IT OFF
• At approximately 2:39 a.m. Jan. 5, a female called the Sumner Police Department and advised that her intoxicated boyfriend had taken her vehicle and hit a parked car in the area of the 1500 block of Wood Avenue. The caller advised that her boyfriend was at home but refused to answer more questions and hung up. Officers responded to the area and located a vehicle with extensive dents and a male lying under a blanket in the driver’s seat. After several unsuccessful attempts to wake the male the officers feared that he may be deceased or suffering from a medical condition. The girlfriend provided a key to the vehicle. Officers opened the door and contacted the subject who was very intoxicated. After interviewing the subject and completing their investigation, officers arrested the subject. While in handcuffs the subject attempted to run off stating, “I’m not going to jail.” The subject slipped and fell and was returned to the patrol car. The subject was charged with obstructing, driving under the influence and hit-and-run.
HIT-AND-RUN
• At approximately 1:57 p.m. Jan. 7, an officer was dispatched to the lobby of the Sumner Police Department to contact the victim of a hit-and-run, which happened about 15 minutes prior at the corner of Wood Avenue and Maple Street in Sumner. The victim said a pickup truck sideswiped her vehicle and did not stop. A witness followed the suspect vehicle in order to obtain the license plate number which he was able to do and provided the plate number to the victim. Based on the suspect vehicle license plate the officers went to a residence and located the suspect and his vehicle. The suspect was intoxicated and positively identified by the victim. The suspect was charged with hit-and-run.
INDECENT EXPOSURE
• At approximately 9:24 a.m. Jan. 3, an officer responded to the 15100 block of Main Street for a report of indecent exposure. The victim described how the subject was staring at her through the window and exposing himself. Officers conducted an area check with negative results. Based on the suspect description officers identified a possible suspect. The victim was shown a photo montage and clearly identified the suspect. The subject was arrested for felony indecent exposure and was booked into the Pierce County Jail.
