• A 22-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence after running a stop light at the intersection of 214th Avenue East and SR 410 at 12:18 a.m. Dec. 14. When the officer activated his emergency lights the driver increased his speed before finally pulling over. When the officer approached, the driver became argumentative and denied any violation. The officer could see the man was intoxicated. The man refused a field sobriety test. He was arrested and booked into the Buckley jail.

BONNEY LAKE

ASLEEP

• An officer was dispatched at 5:40 p.m. Dec. 17 to the 19200 block of state Route 410 East, where a 29-year-old man was slumped over the wheel of a Toyota pickup. Witnesses told the officer they did not see the man driving, but all the cars were going around the vehicle. The pickup was running with the keys in the ignition. The vehicle was in gear and the man’s foot was on the brake. East Pierce Fire and Rescue emergency personnel were on the scene and they were able to set the brake on the pickup. The driver woke up and began talking to medical personnel. He talked slowly and slurred his words. The officer could smell alcohol on the man. The man told the officer he did not have a license because it was suspended, that he had been drinking beer at a friend’s house and that he had consumed too much. The man said he was headed back to his girlfriend’s in Fife and knew he was in big trouble because he had been arrested for driving under the influence many times. He refused to take a field sobriety test or a portable breath test. A records check showed the man’s license was suspended and he was to be driving with an ignition interlock device. The man was booked into the Buckley jail and cited for physical control, interlock device violation, driving with a suspended license and no proof of insurance.

DUI

ENDANGERMENT

• Officers were dispatched to the Swiss Sportsman’s Club at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 12 following a report of shots being fired. Dispatch told the officers five to seven shots were fired, according to the reporting person. The officers were told three men were fighting. When the officers arrived on the scene a witness pointed to a car with seven juvenile suspects seated inside. The officers told the four males and three females inside the car to get on the ground. They were slow to react, but eventually followed directions. One of the suspects, a 16-year-old male, said he had a gun. The youth was handcuffed and read his rights. He confessed to shooting about 10 shots in the air. He told the officers while at a party he saw two individuals from a rival gang. He said he had been drinking and thought firing the shots would relieve his anger and scare the rival gang members away. The juvenile was arrested for reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was transferred to Remann Hall. The other juveniles were released to their parents.

POSSESSION

• A 23-year-old man was arrested for driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 7:35 p.m. Dec. 11. An officer stopped the man’s vehicle because the license plate light was burned out. A records check showed the man’s license was suspended. The man was arrested and a search revealed a plastic container in the man’s front pocket containing marijuana. Inside the vehicle the officer found a pipe with marijuana in the bowl. The man was cited and his vehicle was impounded.

RESISTING

• A 33-year old man was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstruction in the 18100 block of state Route 410 at 2:10 p.m. Dec. 11. Two officers were stopped in heavy traffic when they observed a man get out of a car, walk around to the driver’s side and start punching the window. The two officers got out of their vehicle, identified themselves and ordered the man to step away from the car. The man swore at the officers and told them to shoot him. When the man displayed aggressive behavior toward the officers one of them used a Taser on the man. The man fell to the ground and was placed in handcuffs. The man’s 31-year-old wife said they were arguing about an upcoming divorce when he got out of the car and began punching the window.

MARIJUANA

• An officer found a 24-year-old man hunched over in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Diamond Lounge. When the man opened his window the officer could smell marijuana. The officer could see a 24-year-old woman in the driver’s seat and both the man and woman were crying. The woman told the officer they were arguing. The officer found two baggies of marijuana under the passenger seat. The man told the officer he had purchased the marijuana in the lounge for $75. The woman said she was not aware of the transaction. The man was cited for possession of marijuana and released.

SUMNER

BAR FIGHT

• A bartender in the 13500 block of Valley Avenue Dec. 17 reported going in back for a moment and returning to find three individuals fighting behind the bar. One fled before police arrived. The other two gave statements that they were sitting at the bar with the third when he punched one of them in the face for no reason. Officers attempted to follow up with the third individual.

FIGHT

• A fight started in a tavern in the 1000 block of Main Street Dec. 15. The fight spilled onto the street. Officers responded and took stories from those involved and witnesses. One man jabbed another in the eye. A witness saw another man square off to a woman, hit her in the face and laugh about it with his friends. The man who jabbed and the man who hit were both cited for assault.

DUI

• An officer noticed a vehicle swerving for a number of blocks and conducted a traffic stop in the 16400 block of 64th Street East Dec. 14. The driver said she was coming from the tavern and bypassed her license several times while looking for it in her wallet. After conducting a field sobriety test and a breath test, the officer arrested her for driving under the influence. She refused to sit in the patrol car and kicked out at the officer. She was booked into jail.
