Police Blotter, week of Sept. 15

DUI: Police on patrol Aug. 23 were clearing a call in the 8300 block of Myers Road East when they witnessed a driver who appeared to not be watching and then struck a parked van as it backed into a parking spot. Upon contact, the driver of the vehicle was slurring her speech and smelled of intoxicants and was “very defensive about her driving.” The driver stated she had been drinking but refused to take any field sobriety tests or a preliminary breath test. She was arrested and transported to the Bonney Lake Police Department where she blew a blood alcohol content of well more than twice the legal limit. She was charged with DUI and given a courtesy ride home.

JUST IN TIME: Police on Aug. 26 received a call about two suspicious teenage males looking into car windows and trying cat handles in the 11100 block of 193rd Avenue East. Two suspects matching the descriptions were located nearby and contacted by police. Both smelled of intoxicants and one had a cell phone charger and cigarettes he admitted to taking from a vehicle. The two were then identified by the witness. The two also admitted to trying to get into several vehicles, but finding nothing. One of the boys admitted to tossing aside a flashlight when he saw the police and told an officer “You guys are good. You caught us as soon as we started. If you had caught us an hour later, we would have had a lot more stuff on us.” One of the boys also blew a preliminary breath test of .098, while the other blew a .019. The boy who was not drunk was transported to Buckley Jail and booked on charges of vehicle prowling and theft. The other boy was transported to Remann Hall and charged with Vehicle prowl, theft and minor in possession.

DOPE: Police on routine patrol Aug. 28 witnessed a car on Bonney Lake Boulevard weaving between lanes and pulled over the vehicle. ON contact, the officer noticed the smell of marijuana and observed a glass pipe in the car. The driver admitted to having marijuana in the car and a search revealed a bag, a pair of pipes and a digital scale. The driver was transported to Buckley Jail and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

SHOPLIFTING: Police on Aug. 31 were called to the Walmart to conduct an area check for a suspected shoplifter who was last seen exiting the store, getting into a vehicle and speeding off. According to store security, the suspect had stolen more than $1,120 worth of video games through the summer, but had not been reported for lack of a positive identification.A records check of the vehicle provided a photo of an individual regularly seen in the car who was identified by store security as the person responsible for the thefts. The suspect is known in the community and the case was forwarded to investigations for follow-up.

ATTEMPTED FORGERY: Officers on Sept. 1 were dispatched to the Target Pharmacy for a report a forged prescription slip. A white female brought in an expired prescription for vicodin and then left the store when the pharmacist told her it would have to be verified. The customer never returned for the prescription when called. Police are investigating.

PARAPHERNALIA: Police on patrol just after midnight Sept. 2 observed two known methamphetermine users on bikes without the proper lighting and contacted the individuals to ask if they knew anything about a spate of recent vehicle prowls in the area. One of the suspects is known for carrying knives and said he had one on his person that evening and gave permission to pat him down. During the search, the officer located a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetermine containing residue. The man was arrested and transported to Buckley Jail on charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bicycle was released to the other person.

BURGLARY: Police on Sept. 2 were dispatched to the 19400 block of 67th Street Court East for a report of a residential burglary. The homeowner noticed a snowboard and three skateboards missing from a garage he believes must have been left unlocked. The total value of the items is estimated at approximately $1,000. Police are investigating.

DUI: An officer on a DUI emphasis patrol Sept. 4 witnessed a car turn on to state Route 410 and then slowly drift between lanes before abruptly jerking back into its lane. Upon contact, the officer detected the strong smell of intoxicants and the driver seemed to have difficulty finding his license, which was plainly visible in his wallet. The driver failed several field sobriety tests and declined a preliminary breath test. He was arrested and transported to the Bonney Lake Police Department for processing. He admitted to drinking but said he did not think it affected his driving. The driver then blew a blood alcohol content sample of more than three times the legal limit. He was cited for driving under the influence and released to a cab.

VANDALISM: Police in the early morning hours of Sept. 5 were called to the 18800 block of 101st Street Court East for a report of malicious mischief and vandalism to a vehicle. An unknown suspect had smashed eggs on the car and scratched epithets into the paint. Sugar was also found near the gas tank. Police are investigating.

PROWL: Officers on Sept. 5 were dispatched to the 10000 block of 201st Avenue Place east for a report of a vehicle prowl in which a radar detector, sunglasses and a tool bag were taken from a vehicle accidentally left unlocked. Police are investigating.
