HIT AND RUN: At about 8:20 a.m. April 24, an officer responded to the 1300 block of Zehnder Street for a reported hit and run. The reporting person on scene showed the officer where a vehicle had hit his building. The man pointed out the suspect vehicle parked down the street and said the driver often speeds and drives recklessly in the area. The officer located two tire tracks with a distinct tread pattern in the mud, as well as a trail of mud chunks leading to the suspect vehicle. When the officer examined the vehicle, it had severe front end damage and tires matching the tread pattern. He tried to contact the owner of the vehicle, a truck, but no one answered the door. Several days later, the owner of the truck called the station and left a message. Further communication had the owner state that he had loaned the vehicle to a friend at the time of the offense, but he stated that he contacted the victim to make an agreement for payment of damages.
ROLL OVER: At approximately 1:32 a.m. April 26, a citizen called to report a semi truck and trailer roll over on 142nd Avenue East and 24th Street East. The driver was setting up caution triangles next to the vehicle as the responding officer approached. The officer smelled intoxicants on the man’s breath; his speech seemed slurred and his eyes were bloodshot. The man denied drinking, but he did not pass sobriety tests. He was charged with driving under the influence and operating a commercial vehicle with alcohol in his system. He was booked into the Puyallup jail.
FIGHT: At 4:06 a.m. April 30, officers were dispatched to a fight in the 1900 block of Langdon Street, with 20 potential involved persons. Officers were informed on arrival that the participants in the fight had fled on foot. The victim in the fight told police that people were throwing rocks at his house. He stepped outside to tell them to leave when several people rushed him and began kicking him and hitting him with fists and a small baseball bat. The victim’s mother came out with a baseball bat to ward off the crowd, but they ignored her. The victim then hit one or more of the suspects in the back with a baseball bat. The suspects were located; all but one were released to a parent and the remaining suspect was transported due to injuries incurred by the baseball bat. Charges for assault are being requested through Pierce County Juvenile Court.
ARMED ROBBERY: At about 1:40 a.m. May 7 officers were dispatched to an armed robbery in the 15000 block of Main Street. The victim was approached by three suspects, one of whom displayed a knife and demanded his wallet. He complied, then was hit in the head. The suspects fled the scene on foot. A K9 unit was unable to find the suspects and the case remains under investigation.
