Sumner and Bonney Lake are gearing up for this year’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life taking place July 30 through July 31.
In preparation for the event Sumner and Bonney Lake are proclaiming June 30 “Paint the Town Purple” day. Relay teams are curbing for cancer at major intersections and painting them purple from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
In Sumner, teams will be collecting donations at the intersections of Valley Avenue and Main Street, 166th Avenue East and state Route 410 and Traffic Avenue and Thompson Street.
In Bonney Lake, donations will be collected at the intersection of Sumner-Buckley Highway and Locust Avenue, South Prairie Road and 200th Avenue East and 214th Avenue East and South Prairie Road.
Relay For Life is a celebration of survivors, a remembrance of people who lost the fight against cancer and a chance to fight the disease.
The community is invited to join family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers in this event, which together with millions across the country support the American Cancer Society and the effort to eliminate cancer as a major health issue. Relay For Life’s local event also helps fund the services the society provides in Pierce County.
Registration for a relay team is accepted for a fee of $100 and there are no participant fees or fundraising minimums.
The Relay For Life event takes place at Sunset Chevrolet Stadium at Sumner High School.
