Relay For Life raises $140,000

This year's Relay was hosted by Bonney Lake High School July 27-28 and was the first time the event was held in Bonney Lake.

More than 600 people participated in the 2012 Relay For Life of Sumner-Bonney Lake, raising more than $140,000 for the American Cancer Society.

This year’s Relay was hosted by Bonney Lake High School July 27-28 and was the first time the event was held in Bonney Lake.

“The outstanding support received proves that the Sumner-Bonney Lake community is truly committed to the fight against cancer,” wrote the organizers on their website.

According to the site, 120 cancer survivors joined the opening lap this year.

This year’s relay also featured a sign-up for the Cancer Prevention Study-3, a long term study to help researchers identify the lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer. According to the site, 153 people from the area signed up for the study.

It is not too late to donate to the cause or to get involved in the fight against cancer. For more information, call ACS at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
