As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Exodus Housing in Sumner is hosting a fundraising event Oct. 30.
Take the Plunge Against Domestic Violence is a chance for people to support homeless families in the area while jumping, walking or making a splash into Lake Tapps.
Sharon LaVigne, administrative manager at Exodus Housing, said people may participate in different events for a donation.
“We provide services to homeless families in this area and many of them have been impacted by domestic violence,” LaVigne said.
Currently 57 families are with Exodus Housing, which provides six different housing programs, depending on a family’s need.
Exodus Housing provides support services including financial literacy lessons and assistance with bolstering job skills on the path to self-sufficiency, LaVigne said.
Families live in the housing for up to 24 months.
Take the Plunge Against Domestic Violence is at Allen York Park in Bonney Lake. People may make a donation to jump, walk, or plunge into the water in a show of support.
The Bonney Lake Food Bank will sell food at the event as a fundraiser for itself, so people can have a snack after their dip in the water.
LaVigne said MetLife, Kibble and Prentice and Jay Lee’s Honda of Sumner have assisted with sponsorship.
“They’ve been very supportive of the events we’ve had,” she said.
