Multiple fire agencies coordinated on Oct. 15 to rescue a man who fell down an approximately 60-foot cliff.
The incident occurred in the 37800 block of Auburn Enumclaw Road Southeast, just north of the White River Amphitheatre, in the jurisdiction of Mountain View Fire and Rescue.
The man suffered serious injuries in the fall. First responders transported the man to a local hospital via ambulance.
According to the Valley Regional Fire Authority’s social media, the man was located after his car was found abandoned.
According to Dustin Trout, deputy fire chief at Mountain View Fire and Rescue, family and friends discovered the man’s vehicle up on a hillside where he was working. They went up to go look for him when they found he had fallen over the edge.
Crews received a report of the fall and were dispatched at approximately 7:22 a.m. Oct. 15, according to Trout. They arrived at the scene at 7:31 a.m.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene including the Zone 3 High Angle Rescue Team, the Enumclaw Fire Department, the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, and the Valley Regional Fire Authority, with King County Medic One on standby to treat the patient.
The man was pulled up at 8:32 a.m., approximately an hour after first responders arrived at the scene, according to Trout.
Using a rigging system with both a safety line and main line, rescuers performed a high angle rope rescue, placing and strapping the man into a basket that was pulled up the cliffside.
Video of the incident released on social media showed response teams holding ropes, pulling the man over the top of the hillside.
The man, seriously injured, was stable enough for basic life support and was transported to a local hospital, according to Trout.
“We’re very thankful for our neighboring jurisdictions to assist us with this rescue,” Trout said.
