A steady stream of jailbirds kept showing up at the Enumclaw Fire Station Feb. 24 as part of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Lock-Up Event.

“We had amazing community support for this event,” said Liz Truong Jasmer, Muscular Dystrophy Association executive director, of the fundraising event.

Jasmer said Gamblin Motors donated the cars firefighters used as paddy wagons to pick up jailbirds and Cafe Panini catered the event. Enumclaw firefighters came in on their own time to set up, clean up and serve as arresting officers.

According to Jasmer, $15,500 in “bail” was raised by jailbirds and they have 45 days, while on “parole,” to continue to raise money.

The highest bailraiser to date is Jim Walker of Fred’s Auto Wrecking, who raised more than $1,700.
