San Juan Island salmon limits reduced | Department of Fish and Wildlife

Fishers heading to the San Juan Islands should be aware the Department of Fish and Wildlife announced encounters with legal size hatchery and wild chinook in marine area 7 are projected to exceed the preseason expectations. The fishery is being modified to control impacts on stocks of concern. The daily salmon limit in area 7 has been reduced to one, effective Feb. 24 and lasting through April 30.

Anglers must release wild chinook. Bellingham Bay and Samish Bay will remain closed during April. Anglers should consult the Fishing in Washington, Sports Fishing Rules pamphlet for specific regulations.
