Corn stalks and scarecrows lined Main Street in Sumner Saturday in celebration of Autumn Evening.
Autumn Evening offered plenty of photo opportunities for families as several young children posed for pictures with pumpkins and scarecrows.
The event, produced by the Sumner Downtown Association, provided a chance for residents and visitors to do some after-hours shopping and watch performances from the Dancing Scarecrows from Ascension Theatre Productions.
The Dancing Scarecrows could be seen wandering the streets throughout the evening and people with discerning eyes spotted some of the human scarecrows resting in chairs or against buildings. Periodically, the scarecrows would gather in a large group and as the name Dancing Scarecrows suggests, would perform a dance routine for the crowd.
Saturday’s autumn festivities began with a contest to determine the best scarecrow from Main Street businesses.
By the time Autumn Evening started the downtown association announced the winning businesses’ scarecrows and prize tags on the scarecrows let attendees know who won.
Berryland Café won both the grand prize and the people’s choice; Heritage Bank’s scarecrow received the award for best dressed and Zombie Jane, the scarecrow from A Good Book, earned the business award for being the most haunting.
