The Sumner School District, in partnership with the Puyallup/Sumner Chamber of Commerce, the Bonney Lake Chamber of Commerce, Pierce County Libraries and local senior centers, will offer technology classes beginning Monday and continuing through Jan. 15.
The classes, which are one- to two-hours long, cover subjects including how to identify cyberbullying and teaching safe Internet use for children. A Spanish-language course on the Internet is offered. A course on job hunting offers help with resume writing and applying for a job online. The library just subscribed to a new jobs database.
Robin Clausen, managing director of the Sumner library, said since classes are free, there are a limited number of computers and the ideal class size is six students.
“Depending on people’s skills, smaller classes can be better,” she said.
Courses are available for different skill levels and ages.
“We will be offering classes for Internet for seniors,” Clausen said.
Online homework help for teens includes a one-on-one tutoring session in which students receive help from a teacher online.
Courses are offered at the following days and times:
• Jan. 13 – 1:30 p.m., Jobs now/resume maker; 3:30 p.m., Internet for seniors; 6:30 p.m., Internet in Spanish
• Jan. 14 – 10:30 a.m., Internet for seniors; 1:30 p.m., Jobs now/resume maker; 3:30 p.m., online homework help for teens; 6:30 p.m., Internet in Espanol
• Friday, Jan. 15 – 10:30 a.m., Internet for seniors; 1:30 p.m., Jobs now/resume maker; 3:30 p.m., online homework help for teens
Clausen said the Spanish language classes may continue on a regular basis and she would like the library to offer courses on other Internet topics.
“There’s a lot of people interested in using eBay,” she said.
