What would you like the whole county to read?
Last year everybody devoured “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown.
Before that, we were crazy about “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail” by Cheryl Strayed.
Since the first Pierce County READS in 2008, when we discovered “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” by Alexander McCall Smith, we’ve been reading and discussing a singularly good book throughout the community every spring with this popular event.
What book would you like to read and discuss for a future Pierce County READS?
Here are the criteria for a Pierce County READS book selection:
- Appeals to wide audiences
- Written by a well-known, living author who is an engaging speaker
- Encourages discussion
- Presents relevant and meaningful themes
- Lends itself to community events and activities
Suggest your three best book ideas to the planning committee. The survey is open until Feb. 12, 2016.
Watch for the announcement of the 2016 Pierce County READS selection on Feb. 7 in The News Tribune. Pierce County READS events begin March 6 and continue through April 29, when the author of the selected book will speak at McGavick Conference Center at Clover Park Technical College. In the meantime, see the other good books selected for Pierce County READS. Visit piercecountyreads.org for more information.
