As of 1 p.m., Friday, June 21, drivers are experiencing rolling slowdowns in both directions on Snoqualmie Pass.

Crews are removing loose boulders above the hillside to make the roadway safer for weekend travel. Drivers can expect delays up to one hour in the westbound direction through Friday evening. Eastbound drivers will experience delays up to a half hour.

Rolling slowdowns allow crews to perform critical work without stopping traffic.

Heavy rain last night, June 20, loosened rocks and boulders above the slopes of I-90. Earlier Friday morning, crews closed the highway in both directions to remove the debris. Geotechnical engineers have identified existing material that needs to be removed from the hillside.

The Washington State Department of Transportation apologizes to drivers for the inconvenience. To minimize traffic delays, crews typically to do not reduce lanes on I-90 Fridays through Sundays. Crews are performing this emergency project to make the hillside safer. WSDOT and contractor crews are working hard to prevent boulders from falling onto the highway.
