The following is written by Sumner Mayor Dave Enslow:
A small town like Sumner is great about taking care of its own, but we also make a big impact outside our borders. This last weekend was just one example.
First, on Friday, the City of Sumner employees hosted the seventh annual Golf for Life tournament. We welcomed nearly a full field of golfers (nearly a 150 in all!) who braved the heat at High Cedars to have fun and raise money for the American Cancer Society. From lead sponsor, DM Disposal, to the employees who took a vacation day to participate and coordinate the event, everyone pitched in, and the results look like a new record of over $16,000 raised!
But, Sumner was not done. The Rotary Club of Sumner got up really early on Sundaymorning to head out to Blewett Pass and serve lunch to all the riders of the Courage Classic. The Club returned to Stevens Pass on Monday to again serve all the riders, including Sumner’s own Rotary Riders team. The Courage Classic raises funds for the Rotary Endowment for the Intervention and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect in Pierce County. In other words, our area, thanks in part to Sumner’s participation, has done groundbreaking work to care for victims of child abuse without further traumatizing children. People from around the world are watching what’s being done, and it’s funded in large part from this effort.
I know that a lot of what makes Sumner special is the things we do to help our neighbors here in town, but thank you also to all of you who do a lot to help our neighbors in the county and region as well!
