Sumner High School’s baseball team sent the Patriots to the bleachers Wednesday in an 8-1 victory.
Washington High drew first blood with a run in the second inning; it was their last. The Spartans picked up two runs in the fourth, five in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Overall, the latter team achieved eight runs in 10 hits.
Brandon Boyd achieved three hits and two runs over the course of three at-bats, with two runs batted in.
Chayce Christensen pitched seven innings, allowing three hits and one unearned run. He threw six strikeouts.
Sumner High is presently rated fourth out of eight teams in SPSL 2A, and has so far managed to consistently stay a breath ahead of a dead even win-loss ratio.
A game against top-ranked White River scheduled for today has been postponed to Saturday. The Spartans are scheduled to play the last-ranked and winless Clover Park team tomorrow.
