Spring means lots of wildlife babies | South Sound Care Wildlife Center

In spring South Sound Critter Care Wildlife Center’s thoughts turn to babies…lots and lots and lots of orphaned and injured wildlife babies.

In spring South Sound Critter Care Wildlife Center’s thoughts turn to babies…lots and lots and lots of orphaned and injured wildlife babies. The Center expects to take in more than 2,000 birds, kittens, raccoons, squirrels and other wildlife throughout spring and summer. Last year SSCC treated over 1,600 animals.

To help raise funds for the special formulas and food needed for the babies the Center is holding a Spring Baby Shower Auction. On Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 1-4 pm, the public is welcome to attend a live and silent auction at the Maple Valley Community Center, 22010 SE 248th St Maple Valley, WA 98038.

Auction items will include tickets to the Paul McCartney show in July, an Argosy cruise for four to the Tillicum Village Salmon Bake, tickets to local attractions and wildlife-centered items such as an autographed copy of Living with Wildlife in the Pacific Northwest and a limited edition signed print of The Watcher. Smaller items including jewelry, pet care items and gift certificates from local restaurants and vendors, offering a wide array of ways for people to support the Center.

All proceeds go directly to helping the wildlife as the Center is run by volunteers under the direction of Dr. Jan White a veterinarian with over 30 years’ experience caring for wildlife, and Tigger Birch, a licensed veterinary technician who is also a long-time wildlife practitioner.

The event will also be a chance for people to learn more about South Sound Critter Care’s work and about living with wildlife here in the Northwest. Speakers at the event will include Tim Brown (aka, the Eagle Whisperer) from Fish and Game, Chris Anderson who will talk about Auburn’s environmental restoration projects, and Meg Lumin from Happy Valley Bats who will help folks understand bats, their benefits and how to help conserve them.
