State Route 410 expected to be completed and open next week

After more than a year of dealing with orange cones and construction vehicles, drivers in Bonney Lake are only about a week away from hitting the open road as the Washington State Department of Transportation are nearly ready to open all four lanes of state Route 410 through Eastown.

UPDATE:

According to Bonney Lake Public Works Director Dan Grigsby, the official ribbon cutting on the new stretch of state Route 410 through Eastown is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 7 near 225th Avenue East. Also on Sept. 7 the new traffic signal at the rebuilt 233rd Avenue intersection will be turned on.

After more than a year of dealing with orange cones and construction vehicles, drivers in Bonney Lake are only about a week away from hitting the open road as the Washington State Department of Transportation are nearly ready to open all four lanes of state Route 410 through Eastown.

“We’re looking right now at Sept. 1,” said Project Engineer Dennis Engel.

Engel said the work that still needs to be completed include getting the new traffic light at the rebuilt 234th Avenue East intersection on line and getting the street lights running.

But the largest project to still be completed is the addition of plastic lane markers and other striping to the road surface.

According to Engel, lines can be painted on asphalt right away, but the final plastic-based lines must wait until at least 21 days after the asphalt is laid.

Engel said the new road surface will pass that threshold on Monday and WSDOT will begin to lay the final lines.

After that, Engel said there will still be workers on site finishing some minor work on landscaping, slopes and some electrical, but the roadway itself should be open to traffic.

An official ribbon cutting is being planned for Sept. 1.

Work on the 20.5 million project to widen the nearly 1.5-mile stretch of highway began in March 2010. Work was suspended in January due to the weather and resumed in June.

Work will also continue this fall on WSDOT’s wetlands mitigation site on Fennel Creek at the west end of the Kelley Farm property.
