STOLEN CAR BOUGHT BY UNSUSPECTING DRIVER: Officers were fueling their patrol vehicle on Jan. 15 when they spotted a car that was reported stolen out of Tumwater in August. Officers pulled up to the car when it stopped but found no one in it. Officers kept an eye on the vehicle, and eventually five males entered the car. Officers moved in for a felony stop and detained the male driver, who said the bought the car online. There was a record of sale on the website, plus other evidence that the driver bought the car. Officers contacted the vehicle owner, who said they did not sell the car and it was possible a third party took the car and sold it, along with the title of the car. The car was impounded.
PEDESTRIAN HIT: Officers responded to a car vs. pedestrian hit and run on Jan. 17. The reporting party told officers a car backing up very fast hit her leg and pushed her. The driver then drove away. Officers found the vehicle later but the driver said they did not know of a hit and run. The driver recanted later and said he was afraid of being jumped, then said they thought the person was goofing around, then said the person they hit said everything was all right. The driver was cited for hit and run.
