All suspects in the police blotter are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
FRAUD: Police on June 27 were dispatched to the Justice Center for a report of insurance fraud. A city court employee called the police and provided them with a phony insurance card in a no proof of insurance case. The suspect was cited for providing false evidence of financial responsibility.
PROWL: Officers on June 28 were dispatched to Apple Physical Therapy for a report of a vehicle prowl. The victim’s car was broken into and items taken while she was at work. The passenger side window in her vehicle was smashed and there were pry marks on the door. Police are investigating.
THEFT: Police on June 29 called the victim of a theft that allegedly occurred at the Fred Meyer. The victim reported buying some clothing and later being unable to find his wallet. When he backtracked to the store, his wallet was at lost and found, but $220 was missing from inside. Surveillance footage showed a man picking the wallet off the ground in the parking lot, but it is unknown whether the money was in it at that time. Police are investigating.
FIREWORKS: Police on June 29 were dispatched to the 11000 block of 192nd Avenue East for a report of a male and female physically fighting in the middle of the road. Prior to police arriving, dispatch informed that the man was in a white vehicle driving up and down the road yelling at the female. The man told police the woman, his wife, was shooting a Roman candle, but it “blew up” in her face. He said the woman became disoriented and started walking down the street saying she needed to go to the hospital. The man got his car and pulled alongside her, but she was upset and confused and would not in the car. The woman told police a similar story. East Pierce Fire and Rescue were called to dispatch medical aid to the woman. She was cited for discharging a firework and released.
THEFT: Police on June 30 received a report from a man who observed a vehicle prowl at the intersection of 207th Avenue East and 60th Street. Police located in the area a vehicle matching the description given by the witness and containing three males, also matching the description given by the witness. The two juvenile passengers in the car were sweating profusely and the three said they were waiting for a friend to call. They denied breaking into vehicles. One juvenile said they had entered a truck, but did not take anything and said the other juvenile had actually entered the vehicle. None of the three claimed ownership of a laptop and several other items found in their car. The driver said a friend had put it in the car a few days earlier and that he thought it was stolen. The owner of the vehicle in which they were seen was contacted and he said nothing appeared missing, though the glove box was open and documents had been thrown around. Police took the laptop at the request of the driver. Police located an identification card in the bag and contacted the owner, who said he had a laptop in his vehicle, parked outside. When he checked, his laptop was missing. Police placed the three males under arrest and asked again where they got the laptop, at which the juveniles admitted taking it from a car. They admitted to prowling 10 cars and said they did it because they were bored. Police transported the juveniles to Remann Hall where they were booked. The driver was released at the scene. Most of the items found were returned to their owners, the others were booked into the property room.
THREATS: Police on June 30 took a report in the lobby of the Public Safety Building for a report from a woman and her 6-year-old daughter whose father told her he was going to “bury” the girl, her mother and her sister “under the ground.” The parents are going through a divorce. Police took the report and provided the woman with literature regarding domestic violence and explained her options.
PROWLED: Police on July 2 were dispatched to the 11300 block of 193rd Avenue East for a report of four vehicles being prowled in a driveway. All of the vehicles were left unlocked and an unknown suspect rummaged through them and took speakers, sunglasses valued at $200, a GPS unit and other items. Police are investigating.
THREATS: Police on July 2 contacted by phone a resident who requested a call regarding a call from an unfamiliar voice stating “You better enjoy your family, you have seven days to live.” The number was blocked. The man was simply reporting the incident to police.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: Officers on July 2 were dispatched to the 8300 block of 121st Avenue East for a report of a residential burglary. The reporting party told police she noticed her garage door open when she was leavig for work, though she was certain she’d closed it the night before. She also noticed someone had rummaged through her vehicle taking paperwork and several “coffee stand punch cards.” There were no signs of forced entry to the residence. Police are investigating.
SHOPLIFTING: Police on July 3 were dispatched to Walmart for a report of a shoplift in progress. Loss prevention called police reporting four male teens concealing merchandise on their persons. The security officer told police he heard the boys discussing taking liquor on their way in and began surveillance. He watched one of the boys take a bottle and conceal it in his pants before leaving the store through the grocery section. He then saw one of the others leaving with what appeared to be two bottles concealed in their clothes. Police contacted the boys and placed them under arrest. They were charged with theft and released.
WARRANT: Police on July 4 were dispatched to Walmart for a report of a shoplifter running from loss prevention officers. When police arrived, the man was in store custody. He had attempted to run with two cases of alcohol valued at approximately $17, but tripped on a curb while being chased and was then cooperative with store security. A records check showed the man had an outstanding warrant from Buckley with a bail amount of $3,100. He was transported to the Buckley Jail and booked on his warrant.
