Sumner is conducting a study of its water, wastewater and storm system to determine whether rates need to be raised and by how much.

Included in the study is an assessment in which Sumner examines system development to determine the impact new development has on the three utilites, said Diane Supler, finance director and interim city administrator.

“Some of the pipe has been in the ground 50 years, so it may need replacement,” Supler said.

Supler said ideally, the city can grow with minimal added cost to residents.

“We want growth, but not to increase cost,” Supler said.

A definitive date for results to arrive is not set, but Supler said they may be released around July.
