Sumner event to raise funds for trip to Kenya orphanage

A fundraising event is held tomorrow in Sumner in support of a local group's trip to Kenya to benefit an orphanage.

A fundraising event is held tomorrow in Sumner in support of a local group’s trip to Kenya to benefit an orphanage.

Sumner residents Denice Andersen her son Daniel, who is a junior at Sumner High School, are traveling with another student, Shannon Burlingame to the African country in June.

“We are visiting an orphanage there called Samaritan Children’s home for New Life Mission. We will be staying at the mission as well. My son is doing his senior project regarding this trip,” Denice said.

An auction and dinner at the Buttered Biscuit starts at 7 p.m. and features entertainment.

Local comedian Nacy Parkhurst performs at the event. Denice said she is a “refreshingly clean comic” and said Parkhurst watned to do it at the Buttered Biscuit.

The funds raised will pay for airfare and immunization and vaccination shots.

The Buttered Biscuit at 1014 N. St. in Sumner. Tickets are $10 at the door.
