Sumner is planning repairs to parts of its water system, which includes new piping and the creation of a loop in the sytem.

At a special study session Monday council members heard from city employees regarding the replacement of aged piping and further projects. The new piping would be at Rainier Street and the system would be joined at Main Street and Kincaid, Thompson Street and Silver Street and Gary Street and Parker Road.

“We have to start replacing and repairing some of this pipe,” Pugh said. “It’s critical that we get started.”

The city may issue utility revenue bonds to help fund the project. Less money is available in the capital fund due to declining water revenue from cheaper water rates.

Construction is expected to start in 2012 or 2013.

He said by creating loops in the piping system, it reduces the amount of area that is left without water if there is a break in one of the sections.
