Sumner police still searching for hit and run driver, victim dies at hospital

The Sumner Police Department (SPD) is asking anyone with information about a hit and run on Saturday, Oct. 5 to leave a message for detectives at 253-299-5678 (253-299-TIPS). SPD continues to investigate leads but a specific suspect has not yet been identified.

Video surveillance indicates the vehicle is a small, dark-colored sedan or sports car, not an SUV as previously speculated.  The vehicle will likely have front-end damage and possible damage to the windshield.

Police received report of the incident at 10:53 p.m., Oct. 5. A female in her early 20s was attempting to cross East Valley Highway in the 2700 block to the Log Cabin Tavern. She was struck by a vehicle that continued proceeding north on the highway.

The victim was transported to Tacoma General Hospital and was pronounced dead Monday morning, reported KIRO 7 news.
