Because of last week’s emergency school cancellations, students in Sumner lost a week of instruction, practice and review before end-of-semester testing. To provide students and teachers with adequate time for instruction and assessment, first semester is extended by one week.
This means first semester ends on Feb. 6 and the student waiver day for professional development-grading/flex day is moved from Jan. 30 to Feb. 6.
The new calendar looks like this:
Jan. 30: SCHOOL DAY for all students K-12.
Feb. 3: Last day of middle and high schools’ first semester.
Feb. 6: NO SCHOOL for all students K-12.
Feb. 7: First day of middle and high schools’ second semester.
At this time there have been four days of school closure due to weather. The current school calendar includes two days for weather make-up in May. May 25 and May 29 are now school days for all students, K-12.
The additional 2 make-up days have not yet been scheduled.
