With the 2010 Daffodil Festival Grand Floral Street Parade on Saturday, the Sumner float is approaching completion.

Volunteers are busy with construction on the horse carousel, which will rotate as the float moves down the road and at the front is a runaway horse which will appear to buck up and down.

This year’s theme is “Spring Fever” and the float is based on a carousel, with the lead horse breaking free from the rest.

At the float barn Thursday, the group was busy working on the carousel section of the float.

Jackee Bechtold said it’s her fifth year helping to prepare the Sumner float and she has a great time doing it. She was in the midst of painting wooden horses while Rick Shively was on top of the float installing carousel pieces.

“It’s fun. That’s why we do it,” Bechtold said.

Today, Wednesday, volunteers are cutting the daffodils and placing them on the float to add some of the trademark yellow to the design and on Thursday final touches will be made.

The parade travels through Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting and will proceed along Sumner’s Main Street at 2:30 p.m.
