Tacoma-based South Sound Outreach Services will provide complimentary tax preparation assistance Feb. 21 and March 21 in Sumner.

The service works in collaboration with the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, or VITA, by providing help for low to moderate-income seniors through its trained and certified volunteers.

“We’ll have two or three volunteers available to oversee tax preparations,” said SSOS Program Coordinator Bob Badgley.

This is the fifth year the organization has participated in the program that takes place across Puget Sound. “We are expecting to serve at least 400 people in the Puget Sound area this year,” he said. “The numbers have been doubling each year.”

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 21 and March 21 at the Sumner Family Center, 1503 Valley Ave. For those interested, Badgley said appointments can be made by calling SSOS at 253-593-2111.
