Sumner School District’s Board of Directors will vote on a policy for its new in-house Alternative Learning Experience program tonight at its monthly meeting.
The district has spent the past several months in the process of developing an in-house alternative education program after the White River Alternative Program shuttered much of its program in the spring, notably those that catered to students from partner districts.
State law requires school districts with alternative learning programs to vote in an Alternative Learning Policy annually.
A $23,676 annual lease agreement has been negotiated for the building adjacent to the Sumner Pierce County Library on Fryar Street, in order to house Sumner’s alternative program. The lease agreement will be explained in greater detail tonight, in a report by Teaching & Learning Executive Director Erin LaVerdiere.
