Witness accounts of the early morning collision on August 4th reveal the heroic actions of passing motorists who helped two people from a crashed car as it was erupting into flames.

Washington State Patrol detectives have been conducting an investigation for Vehicular Assault following the collision at 4:06 in the morning on southbound I-5, near South 304th Street. After locating and interviewing witnesses, detectives discovered that three Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents from SeaTac Airport took time from their commute to help the driver and passenger escape the burning vehicle following the collision. While one of the agents called 911 to get help, the other two agents risked injury by approaching the burning car to free the two occupants and move them to safety.

The vehicle quickly became fully engulfed in flames causing the surrounding grass to ignite. The driver, a 21 year old Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) man, and his 29 year old female passenger were both injured in the collision, but escaped further injury from the fire due to the actions of the TSA agents.

The one vehicle collision occurred when the 2008 BMW M3 drove onto the southbound I-5 grass median and struck a concrete utility box. The driver is recovering from his injuries and faces a Vehicular Assault charge because of the injuries to his passenger.
