East Pierce Fire and Rescue firefighters responded to a serious two-vehicle crash at 10 p.m. Tuesday.

One patient was transported to a local trauma center in critical condition, said East Pierce Battalion Chief Rick Goetz. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both lanes of the road were closed for some time during operations.

The scene was turned over to the Washington State Patrol, who is investigating the cause of the crash.
