March left like a lion with accumulations of 4 inches of snow across the Plateau and much more in higher regions.

Snow began falling March 25 and by the following morning high school baseball fields were covered and games were canceled.

The snow continued falling intermittently through Thursday and Friday mixed with rain, hail and freezing rain.

By Saturday, the snow was mostly melted and folks across the Plateau were left wondering if spring will ever arrive.

Although the weather was cold and wet, East Pierce Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief John McDonald reported there were only a few auto accidents Thursday and Friday with no deaths. There were some injuries.

McDonald said some power lines were down due to the snow.

When the snow hit the city had three snowplows on the streets.

“We were able to keep on top of it without any problem,” Public Works Director Dan Grigsby said. “We also supported the police department. When they tell us there is a certain problem location we send the plows and sand trucks.”

Grigsby said the city will be adding a fourth plow this year with a 12-foot blade.

The Sumner, White River, Carbonado and Enumclaw school districts started late, but no days were missed.

The weather forecast for the next five days shows just plain rain.
