LibraryScienceList.com has rated the Washington State Library as one of the most social media-friendly state libraries in the U.S.
The website ranks Washington No. 9 out of 46 state libraries that make use of social media. Based on social media platforms, Washington is rated 20th for Facebook, 14th for Twitter, 15th for YouTube and 9th for Pinterest, a newer photo-sharing site that is gaining popularity.
Said Secretary of State Wyman: “I’m pleased to see the Washington State Library receive such a high ranking. It’s another example of how the State Library has embraced technology and social media to reach out to the public about what it has to offer.”
The top three rated state libraries were the Library of Virginia, South Carolina State Library and Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Among the other West Coast libraries, California ranks 12th and Oregon No. 28.
Points were assigned based on the amount of activity and number of followers and weighted to put more emphasis on the platforms that were used by the most libraries.
