Enumclaw teen charged in stabbing
Enumclaw resident Max Hellesto has been charged with first and second-degree assault after stabbing another teenager and injuring another during a fight on Aug. 6. One teenager was stabbed three times, sending him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Witnesses to the fight say Hellesto came prepared with the knife in his hand, although he claims he only had the knife for protection. Read more about the stabbing and charges here.
Black Diamond Labor Days permit dispute settled; festival will be held Sept. 3 – 5
After two of the most heated Black Diamond City Council meetings, it was discovered that the 102-year Labor Days festival did not need council approval for a special event permit. Planning underway to improve Mud Mountain Dam fish trap
The Army Corps of Engineers is going to be undertaking a huge project to revamp the Mud Mountain Dam fish trap. The project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2020, could cost anywhere between $50 and $100 million. The fish trap, which takes fish from Buckley to further up the White River for spawning, needs to be able to handle 1.25 million fish. Read more about the project planning here.
Expo Center sees jump in revenue, notes need for physical renovations
The Expo Center is seeing a rise in profits as the recent King County Fair brought in 200,000 visitors, five times what it brought just a year ago. Other events like the Wine and Chocolate Festival also saw increased revenue, but the Brewfest in October saw a bit of a dip. Emerald Downs Distaff and Longacres Mile results
Perhaps a Pie, a 4-year filly, took the win for an Enumclaw trainer this last weekend during the Emerald Downs Distaff. Point Piper, an invader from California, also took the win during the Grade 3 Longacres Mile while also setting a track record. Read more about Perhaps a Pie and Point Piper here.
