Enumclaw School Board member Gerd Weyer announced his resignation during the board’s regular meeting Aug. 17.
Weyer, who was elected over incumbent Lorianne Taff in November 2007, said he would like to pursue other interests including devoting more time to a book he is writing about the political accountability system.
Weyer thanked fellow board members, district leaders and the community for electing him. He is a 1980 Enumclaw High School graduate who returned to the Plateau in 1986 to work for Helac Corporation, where he currently services as a board member.
“This has been a wonderful opportunity,” he said. “You are in good hands.”
The selection process to fill his term through November 2011 begins immediately.
Weyer represents District Director Area No. 4, which stretches from the area around Westwood Elementary School and Krain to Black Diamond.
Applications are available starting Aug. 19 at the district’s Web site, www.enumclaw.wednet.edu, and at the district office. The application deadline is 4 p.m. Sept. 11. An orientation session for all applicants is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 14. The board plans to meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 in executive session to evaluate candidates’ qualifications. Interviews will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16., with the hope of appointing a replacement by the board’s Sept. 21 regular meeting.
