The state Route 410 White River Bridge in Enumclaw reopened to traffic at 12:55 a.m. Saturday, April 11, following emergency repair work to a damaged overhead beam.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation have worked around the clock since bridge engineers discovered the damage during a routine bridge inspection Saturday, April 4.

“We want to thank everyone for their patience during the emergency closure of this vital link between the communities of Enumclaw and Buckley,” said WSDOT Regional Administrator Lorena Eng. “We are pleased our contractors could complete the temporary repairs within a week, and that these two communities can now get back to their normal travel routines.”

During the emergency closure, contractor crews built a temporary support structure to shore up the bridge. This allowed workers to safely repair the damaged steel beam.

WSDOT bridge engineers believe an over-height load struck the bridge in the westbound lanes, putting a large dent in the horizontal beam. A low-clearance warning sign is posted along the shoulder approaching the bridge.

WSDOT engineers estimate the total cost of both the temporary repair and permanent fix to the SR 410 White River Bridge at approximately $1.5 million. The permanent repairs are expected to begin sometime this year.

The Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses: Anyone who saw an over-height vehicle that may have struck the bridge is urged to call the WSP at 425-401-7788.
