Bonney Lake Police Blotter, week of June 2

STRONG ARM ROBBERY: Police on May 26 were dispatched to the Arco Gas Station on state Route 410 for a report of a robbery. According to an employee, a dark-skinned male jumped over the counter, shoved the employee and threatened the employee before grabbing several packs of cigarettes and then ran off on foot. Police set up a perimeter around the former WSU forest and located two subjects, including one matching the description of the Arco suspect, who was also found to have the cigarettes on him. The suspect was transported to Remann Hall and booked for 2nd degree robbery and possession of stolen property.

SHOPLIFTING: Officers on May 25 were dispatched to the WalMart for report of a shoplifting. Store security witnessed the suspect stuffing several hundred dollars worth of blu ray DVDS and video games under his jacket and then attempting to leave the store without paying, but opted to wait for police backup because of the subject’s demeanor. As police approached the suspect, he tried to pull away in a vehicle, but opted to flee on foot. Police gave chase and the suspect began throwing DVDs behind him as he ran. Officer continued to chase the suspect across SR410. Police followed the suspect into the Applebee’s where he attempted to hide in the bathroom. The suspect continued to resist and a struggle ensued with the police pulling the suspect to the floor and, after a warning, deployed their Taser. The suspect continued to struggle as police cuffed and searched him, revealing two meth pipes, a clear baggie with powder residue and marijuana. The suspect was transported to Pierce County Jail and booked on charges of theft, obstructing, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

DUI AND MORE: Officers on routine patrol MAy 24 observed a car stopped in the left turn lane. A check of the plates determined the vehicle was more than 45 days past a point of sale, a criminal offense, a pulled over the vehicle. Upon contact, the driver smelled strongly of intoxicants and appeared intoxicated. He also had a suspended license and failed to have the required ignition interlock on the vehicle. The driver failed field sobriety tests and blew a .121 on a portable breath test. He was arrested and booked into Buckley Jail on charges of DUI, DWLS, failure to use an ignition interlock device and failure to transfer title within 45 days.

RECKLESS ROLLOVER: Police on May 23 were dispatched to the 9600 block of 192nd Avenue East for a report of a rollover accident. When police arrived, the driver was outside of the car and appeared uninjured, but intoxicated. When police asked for a license, the driver handed over a credit card. Twice. The driver failed multiple sobriety tests and blew a .192 on a portable breath test. During the collision, the driver struck two mailboxes and a utility pole. The pole was broken and wires were on the ground. The vehicle was impounded and the driver eventually provided blood alcohol content results of .220 and .221. Police punched a hole in the driver’s license, was cited for driving under the influence and failure to provide proof of insurance and was transported to his residence where he was released.

RECKLESS AND A WARRANT: Police on routine patrol May 23 witnessed a car with a defective headlight and attempted to pull it over. When the driver noticed the police cruiser behind him, he sped up in an apparent attempt to lose the police, swerving through an intersection. As police caught up with the vehicle, he swerved through the AM/PM lot, nearly missing several collisions and was eventually forced to stop while backing out of a parking stall. A passenger in the vehicle was discovered to have a $20,000 warrant from the state police. The driver was cited for reckless driving, a defective headlight, expired registration and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. He was transported to Buckley Jail. The passenger was released to the state police. Police are also investigating the possibility of the vehicle being stolen.

TOUGHER THAN HE THINKS: Police on patrol May 22 witnessed a male and female subject engaged in a possible domestic dispute in the parking lot in front of Babalouies. As police contacted the male subject he appeared to be intoxicated and he refused to show identification. As police attempt to detain him he tried to spin away and began to resist the officer, yelling “you guys ain’t that tough!” The subject continued to resist and police were forced to deploy a taser in order to handcuff the subject. A witness reported seeing the man kick the woman in the chest and grabbing her by the neck. Police transported the man to Buckley jail where he was booked on charges of obstructing a police officer, resisting arrest and assault domestic violence.

FORGERY: Police on May 22 were dispatched to the Target Pharmacy for a report of a forgery in progress. When police arrived, employees provided a descripton of the subject and vehicle. The subject allegedly attempted to fill a prescription for Oxycodone, but when employees attempted to verify the prescription the doctor informed them that it was a forgery. It was the second time the man attempted to fill the prescription and police were able to locate the suspect through the first prescription, filled in March. As police were at Target, another team of officers located the suspect vehicle and detained the driver, who matched the description. After being transported back to Target, the subject was identified and admitted to trying to fill the prescription, which was a forgery. He was transported to Pierce County Jail and booked for prescription forgery. The passenger in the car when it was stopped was found to have a felony warrant and was also booked in Pierce County on the warrant.

NOISE AND DOPE: Police on May 22 were dispatched to a noise complaint from a party in the 10200 block of 207th Avenue Court East. When police arrived they smelled burnt marijuana. Police were allowed entry to the house through a back door, though no one would answer the front door. Inside, police found many intoxicated individuals as well as a collection of glass pipes and bongs and multiple large bags of marijuana. One of the subjects was also found to be carrying a concealed weapon. Two subjects were transported to Pierce County Jail and booked on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. One subject was also charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance for having percoset pills. In addition, one person was transported from the party for medical attention due to severe intoxication.

WEAPONS AT SCHOOL: Police on May 20 were called to Bonney Lake High School after two students were discovered to have AirSoft rifles in their car. The owner of the car said he forgot the rifles were there after removing them from the trunk while changing a tire. The student was cooperative. Police took the rifles as evidence and the case was forwarded to the prosecutor for review of charges of possession of dangerous weapons on school facilities.
