Charles Becker

Charles Lyon Becker, 68, of Enumclaw, died Dec. 20, 2010, in Auburn.

He was born April 22, 1942, in Gary, Ind., to Herb and Ruth Becker. His family moved to Spokane when he was 2 years old. He started playing percussion in elementary school and continued through college. In 1960, he graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. He met Geri Goostrey in the college band and they were married on Aug. 11, 1963, in Spokane.

He graduated in 1965 from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor of arts in education, with a major in industrial arts and a minor in psychology. He taught industrial arts at Rainier School in Buckley; sign language, a few years of driver’s training and worked as a metal and fiberglass fabricator.

He completed graduate work in special education at Western Washington University and Central Washington University. He was a member and Trustee at Wabash Presbyterian Church.

His hobbies included spending time with family, wood working, camping, building things, making things to sell at bazaars, snake charming (gummy worms for his grandsons) and being well versed in the adhesive arts (duct tape). He loved being a dad and grandpa. His favorite quote was “N.M.W.I.L.Y.,” “no matter what I love you.”

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Geri; son Scot Becker and wife Carrie of Aberdeen, Scotland; daughters Heidi Bursch and husband Jeff of Shelton and Jaymi Fox and husband Stuart of Enumclaw; brother Herb Becker and wife Barb of Enumclaw; sister Peggy Murphy of Pomona, Calif.; and seven grandsons.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Wabash Presbyterian Church with the Rev. George Dakin officiating.
